Here at St. Joseph’s Port Moody, we recognize the great need to spread awareness about the destructive nature and evil of abortion and euthanasia.  We also recognize the great need to champion the right to life of all of God’s children, to savour the goodness of human life, and to accompany on the path of healing all our brothers and sisters in the world reeling from post-abortive trauma.

The main aim of the Pro-Life Group is not only to instill a respect for life in our community but to spur on our parish family to make a difference – upholding the Culture of Life by words and example.  St. Joseph’s participates annually in Life chain events, March for Life, and the 40 Days for Life Campaign.

Please let us know if you’d like to be on the frontlines of making a difference!

WE ALL have the potential and opportunities to make a difference, lifting others up, empowering others, making bold choices ourselves, and – as a communion of believers – to build up a Culture of Life in our society… one child, one vulnerable person, one mother at a time.

Hear Fr. Mark's story of one remarkable young woman and one outstanding community of support.

THANK YOU

St. Joseph's REPRESENT!   A huge THANK YOU to all our parishioners and friends who came out on April 9 to witness to life during the 40 Days for Life Campaign in Vancouver.  And thank you to those who were praying at home, outside the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm.

I am so grateful for all our Pro-Life warriors who leaned in to this vital work of praying for our most vulnerable brothers and sisters and building up a Culture of Life in our society.   And this work continues, dear friends, as we keep up our prayers every day and as we stand up for life in our interactions.

“The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”  - Book of Job 33:4

40 Days for Life

March 2021

Dear friends far and wide! Join us on Saturday, March 20 out in Port Moody or in the comforts of you own home! We still need prayer warriors (that means YOU) throughout the day. Specifically, we could really use extra help at the 2:00pm to 3:00pm hour outside the church. And, again, even if you live far away, you can still sign up to pray at home. Your prayers for the pre-born and for their parents are so important, brothers and sisters.

October 4, 2020 | Terry O’Neill

Encouraging waves and honks from many passing motorists buoyed the spirits of two dozen parishioners from St Joseph’s Parish (Port Moody) as they peacefully and prayerfully participated in the annual Life Chain on October 4.

Led by their new pastor, Fr. Mark McGuckin, the parishioners stood for an hour in front of their church, holding signs with pro-life messages. They reported seeing only few vulgar gestures from passing motorists, and heard just single obscene screed from one woman. Organizer Alex Fantillo thanked Fr. Mark for promoting participation during all of his post-Mass announcements earlier in the day.

Two dozen St. Joseph’s Parish parishioners stood silently and prayerfully outside the church on the afternoon of October 6 as part of the international Life Chain movement.

The event looks to counter the culture of death by opposing abortion and promoting adoption and other alternatives.

Organizer Alex Fantillo said the non-political event sent a much-needed message to the community that life issues remain important.

April 20, 2019 | Terry O’Neill | An Abridged Version

This past Holy Saturday (April 20, 2019), upwards of 100 Blooms volunteers, from school children to retired folks like myself, visited a dozen seniors-care facilities in Maple Ridge, Coquitlam, Port Moody and Surrey, giving a total of 1,200 residents an African violet, a hand-made greeting card, and—perhaps of greatest value—a visit, a pat on the back, or a hug.

As the years go by and the project continues to grow, benefactor Vander Zalm grows ever more pleased with its success. “I think one of the biggest reasons I love supporting Blooms into Rooms is because it’s full circle,” he told me recently.
